Accounting Manager
About the Role
An established, mission-driven organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to own payroll operations, tax compliance, and key accounting processes. This role sits at the intersection of Finance, HR, and external partners, with direct impact on financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and internal controls. You'll lead a small team while partnering closely with senior finance leadership in a modern, systems-driven environment.
This is a high-visibility role offering ownership, influence, and the opportunity to strengthen and scale core financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across federal, state, and local requirements
* Manage payroll accounting, including reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close activities
* Lead domestic sales tax compliance efforts, including nexus analysis, filings support, and reconciliations
* Partner with HR and Sales on incentive compensation administration, reporting, and controls
* Support pension and 401(k) audits by preparing schedules and maintaining audit-ready documentation
* Drive process improvements and system enhancements related to payroll, tax, and compliance tools
* Strengthen internal controls and support cross-functional change initiatives
Desired Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
* 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with payroll, compliance, and audit exposure
* 3-5+ years of people management experience within accounting or payroll functions
Nice to Have
* Experience supporting both nonprofit and for-profit environments
* Exposure to NetSuite or similar ERP platforms
* Experience with tax compliance tools such as Avalara
